Where can I find a DK serial cable for a EPSON receipt printer? In the back of the receipt printer, there is a DK label on top of a modem female port. I am trying to find a cable that has a modem head on one end and a serial female on another. Is there one? Thanks The printer uses USB to connect and prints just fine. My intention is to connect a MMF serial cash drawer to the back of the printer.

Difference between serial printer and serial modem cables? I need a serial modem cable. I have a bunch of the printer cables laying around..are they interchangeable? If not, how can I tell which is which? I am referring to the 25-pin cable.

trevbrat03 replied: "no the modem cable has a X over in it"

PoohBearPenguin replied: "Most printers used a parallel cable, not serial cable. This would be a cable that had a 25 pin connector on one end, and one of those "tab" like connectors on the other you had to clip to the printer. A parallel cable was also a straight-through cable, meaning pin 1 on the computer side, connected to pin1 on the printer side. Serial modem cables, however, only use 9 pins, even though they might still use the same wide 25 pin connector. In fact, my old serial modem cable only had 9 pins on one end - the other 16 pins were empty. Also, a serial modem cable has crossed wires in it, so that the "send" pin on one end, goes into the "receive" pin on the other. You can find wiring diagrams for serial modem cables online, so you can see if you have a modem cable, or a normal serial cable. All you need is a circuit tester, or just a small battery, 2 pieces of wire, and a light bulb. Tape one piece of wire to each terminal of the battery. Wrap one of the wires around the light bulb such that when you connect the circuit with the wires, the light bulb lights up. Now you can test your cable. Touch one wire to a pin. Stick the other wire in the corresponding hold of the other side of the cable. If the light bulb lights up, then you know that that pin and hole are connected by a wire. Follow the wiring diagram to test the other pins/holes. If they all match you're good to go."

Can an older HP inkjet printer with a serial cable be adapted to plug into a newer computer that only has USB? Only hs USB ports?

Serial Printer Cable Pinouts Needed? I desperately need to find the pinouts for a DB9 female to DB9 male printer cable. It is for a Samsung SRP-770II label printer.

I need to hook up my HP 2100 Serial type printer to a wireless print server. How do I do this? The HP is a serial printer with no USB connector. It has serial cable only.

kyrrian replied: "I have to think that you mean Parallel, rather than Serial? Serial printers are kind of rare, and usually are just label makers. The 2100 looks to me like a pretty standard printer, so you probably want a Wireless print server with a Parallel port connection. These are certainly available, but they cost around $80 new from what I've seen. You can find them used on sites like eBay for $25 +shipping. Check out the D-Link DP-311P, the TrendNet TEW-P1PG Wireless Parallel Print Server, or the CP Technologies WPS-9121. If you mean that you already have a Wireless Print Server, but you want to somehow connect your old printer to the USB connection, you might have luck using a USB to Parallel port cable, though I'm not sure if those have compatibility with print servers."

Help, I have a closet full of cables. What resources help me untangle this SnakePit? I can figure out the myriad of phone cords, cable coax and printer serial cables, but some of these look befuddling. Is there any good resource on identifying what cables are meant for what task or function for PC's? Are these recyclable in general? All of these are from PC's, printers, scanners and other PC peripherals. Finally, are stand alone AC adapters who have long lost their peripheral partners recyclable too? Or any other use/outlet for them?

MarkyP00 replied: "If you sure you don't need them anymore, put them all in a box and take them to a Goodwill store. I'm sure they can use the various cables and power modules to refurbish items that get donated but are missing such essential peripherals."

How can I connect this printer to my new PC? I just bought a new computer but it doesn't have the same port to hook up the monster db9 serial cable that my laser printer uses. The printer doesn't support any other cables and I can't seem to find a db9 to usb adapter. Does such a thing exist?

jamesmicoff replied: "Yep there is such a thing and you can get same day shipping. See link below"

doc_holliday1863 replied: "if it does exist do an Ebay search because they have more things than you can imagine. Good luck"

Pendragon replied: "Yes it exists. Costs $10-$20 bucks. Frey's Electronics has them as well as USBgear.com. "

Drunken Stepfather replied: "Those other guys are wrong. You have to buy a whole new printer. Update your hardware to 2008!"
